becoming conversant

For Christmas 2006, my mom gave me a skirt. It was orange with a cool pattern but it didn't fit. Stay with me, this is a good post. I took the skirt back and looked for something to exchange it with. I found one Converse shoe on the clearance rack. It was my size, so I asked for another one, and ended up buying the pair, after some deliberation.

That was the best decision of my life.

I get comments about those shoes all the time. I like them a lot and wear them a lot. They might be my favorite shoes....
I think they are my favorite shoes.

So, a photographic journey through the lifetime of my shoes.

January 2007, Norman, OK, right after getting them. They are still working towards becoming the integral part of my identity which they are now:
[look how shiny white they were!]
A year later, February 2008, Ozark, MO. Shoes are now a year old:
Next, November 2008, Saint Petersburg, Russia. Shoes are now almost two, and covered in Russian grime:
Lastly, March 2009, somewhere in Arizona or New Mexico. Shoes are now over two years old, and still going strong. Aren't they so photogenic:

I just realized I'm wearing the same jeans in the first three pictures. How embarrassing.

I don't know why so embarrassing; maybe a post about the life of jeans is in order next.

So I'm a bit confused about the beginning of the story. The shop was selling one shoe at a time?

yeah, it's really not embarrassing at all. I don't know why they only had one shoe out on the rack, but I'm sure glad I found it and asked for the other.

This is a good post. I think the story of the jeans would be great, too. :)
Ah, all the Russian grime, yep, what more can I say?
I just hate that I missed seeing these shoes while you were in St. P!

oh it was way too cold to wear these the day I came over!
the story of the jeans is: i bought them nearly three years ago and still wear them a lot. i wore them yesterday. you can actually see them fade in the progression of pictures. the end.
